Like any oenologist, Jean-Pierre Valade has always dreamed of owning his own cellar. For 25 years technical director of the Institut Œnologique de Champagne, where he continues to officiate, he dispenses his skills from everywhere, in the new wine producing countries, those that are emerging more and more, competing with the historical producers of the old world, as well as in the latter. And this for the elaboration of sought-after nectars, with a particular originality: the production of bubbles...
His personal and professional ties with Eric Petitjean, former owner of the Institute who has now sold the business, will allow the dream to become a reality. The desire to continue a fruitful collaboration led him to finance the project. La Croix des Pins" project. JPV had focused on the region's wines, which he particularly appreciates for their acidity, fruitiness and freshness, characteristics that are increasingly in tune with the tastes of new consumers. After visiting several estates for sale, he arrived in Mazan, at the entrance to the Chemin des Pins. He experiences a flash: "it's there!" He did not immediately measure the extent of the work to be done. Today, a quality, elegant and restored domain erases a domain that was once in agony. Forget the difficult moments, the hard work and the difficulties, what remains are the beautiful encounters with the craftsmen of the site, whose combined originality signs the final result. From now on, the priority is the passion, the culture of wine and bubbles. Bubbles in many countries of the planet, but not in Mazan. But that's no problem! So what?
The sparkling wine is ready! Made using the Champagne method, by transforming a 2015 rosé that is acidic and lively, which could, like other well-known products, become a local aperitif. "Sprint" is its name, a nod to the Tour de France, which passed through Mazan on July 14 before arriving in Ventoux. A festive drink, intended to renew and diversify local production, it was born of the happy marriage of local production and the creative imagination of our oenologist, always quick to favor the terroir. The world of bubbles is evolving, gaining 30% in 10 years, as the example of Prosecco from the Lake Garda region attests.
"Sprint" was born. As an appellation, it has to be the first! It is up to communication and marketing to ensure the recognition of the product, to promote its distribution and consumption (in moderation), in convivial, friendly and festive occasions. A beverage that, like its creator, should be a storyteller, generating pleasure by enriching the local heritage. It can be consumed plain or in a combined form, like a "Kir". It is offered for sale with a graduated pipette of Beaumes-de-Venise, to allow for blends adapted to all tastes. Good tasting, Mister the creator of bubbles... and of pleasure!
